Corrosion, Crack and Structural Inspection of Vehicle Components

Various rail vehicle components are subject to corrosion, fatigue cracking or rot and need to be inspected at regular intervals to ensure that the vehicle is safe to operate. The intervals are based on time or distance run and are set so as to
identify problems before failure occurs. These periods recommended in this task instruction are based on typical or expected age and use of heritage vehicles. Operators should consider their own equipment, its likely use and repair history when setting or adjusting the intervals between inspections.
